The PoC 1.0 DVD was released on April 7, 2006. It contains the all of the PoC 1.0 R1 software, as well as all the packages to install the LCG 2.7 middleware, and the SUN Java SDK, plus some additional packages that are required. This should be sufficient to install a complete LCG UI and the Vl-e PoC software.
This is the first official release of the PoC software, based on the list that was handed down by the VleIT. The software has been bundled as an apt-getable and yum-installable repository of RPM packages. This bundle can be installed on any Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 compatible distribution.
The LCG 2.7 middleware is included on the DVD, but it should really be considered as a separate bundle. It is installed with YAIM. The PoC installer script will do this automatically.
The full set of the PoC software is obtained by installing one of
two meta-RPMs, vl-e-ui
for user interfaces or
vl-e-wn
for worker nodes (this is a subset without the
graphical user interface tools). The installer will install the UI version.
The VL-e packages on the DVD are the same as the ones found on this website, but you should regularly check for updates of both the LCG middleware and the VL-e packages.
Installation from the DVD is simple: open a terminal as root and
run the dvdinstall
install
script (most likely found in /mnt/cdrom/dvdinstall
). This
will install an LCG UI and the vl-e-ui package, without asking a lot
of questions.
Unfortunately, no unix2dos
was used on the autorun.inf
file on the DVD. Browser the DVD and open README.html
in the
doc
directory.
The LAM/MPI software has been put in its own playpen: /opt/lam
since
it doesn't play nice with MPICH provided by LCG. To use LAM/MPI, you need to
add /opt/lam/bin
to your PATH
variable, and
/opt/lam/lib
to LD_LIBRARY_PATH
.
